On the evening of June 28, 2011, the Pleasantville Board of Education appointed Dr. Garnell Bailey as Superintendent of Schools. As Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources since January 2010, Dr. Bailey has proven to be a valuable asset to the Plesantville Public Schools.
Prior to her arrival in Plesantville, Dr. Bailey served as the Interim Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, and Director of Human Resources for the Plainfield Public Schools, a small school district in Union County, New Jersey, supporting 15 schools. Before then, Dr. Bailey served as the Human Resources Director and Acting School Business Administrator for the Camden City Public Schools, a large urban school district in Camden County, New Jersey, supporting 34 schools. Her career in public education began as a Diversity/Affirmative Action officer in the Newark Public Schools, the largest school district in the State of New Jersey, supporting 84 schools.
Professional/Civic Affiliations
Dr. Bailey has served as the Chairperson for the Plainfield Human Relations Commission, and Chair of the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board. She has also served as a member of the Bethleham Vo-Tech Board of Directors and United Way of Lehigh Valley.
In addition, Dr. Bailey maintains her membership with the following organizations: The American Society of Training and Development, Society of Human Resources Management, American Management Association, Corporate Leadership Council, The Conference Board, and Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. Dr. Bailey is also an approved mentor for the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.
As a life-long educator, Dr. Bailey has served as an adjunct professor at Pennsylvania State University, Lehigh University, Moravian College, and Northampton Community College.
Personal
Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Dr. Bailey attended the Plainfield Public Schools. Upon graduation, she attended Cheyney University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Shortly thereafter, she obtained a Masters of Arts in Educational Adminstration from Kean College and a Doctorate in Business Management/Human Resources from Walden University. Dr. Bailey has two adult sons.
