PLEASANTVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT
IS LEAVING NO PARENT BEHIND

Introducing the new parental involvement policy
for Title I parents under the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Act

A parental involvement policy must be jointly developed with and distributed to parents of participating children. A sharing of responsibilities for high student performance and building the capacity of school staff and parents for involvement, and increasing
accessibility for participation of parents with limited English proficiency or with
disabilities.

It is more important to understand that involvement of families in their children’s
education is not limited solely to attendance at PTO/PTA meetings or volunteering at schools. What parents do at home with their children is even more important to the total education effort, and schools need to let parents know that they value both their donation of time at school and their involvement at home.

Section 1118 requires that every school district and each school receiving Title I dollars must have a written parent involvement policy. It must ensure that strong plans for parental involvement are in place in every Title I school, and should be designed to encourage and sustain active parental involvement.
